Melbourne Wheelchair Tennis Opening Event

On Tuesday 21 January, Consul-General Matsunaga attended the Opening of the Melbourne Wheelchair Tennis Open at Hume Tennis & Community Centre. Around 200 people participated in the event, which included the world-class wheelchair tennis players such as Shingo Kunieda and Yui Kamiji. There were also eight Japanese junior wheelchair tennis players invited by Tennis Australia as well as their coaches and those involved in this year's tennis tournaments.

At the event, the chef at the Consul-General's official residence cooked Japanese food such as okonomiyaki (Japanese savoury pancakes) and bite-sized Japanese wagyu steaks, and a Japanese beverage company offered matcha green tea slushie and bottled green tea, which provided an opportunity for the participants to understand Japanese food culture better.
