Public/Cultural Relations Clerk
Consulate-General of Japan in Melbourne is seeking a Public/Cultural Relations Clerk.
Position Details:
Job title: Public/ Cultural Relations Clerk
Employment status: Full time
Working hours: 9:00-17:00 (weekend and after-hours work may be required for special events.)
Recess: 1 hour (13:00-14:00)
Annual salary range: commensurate with experience
Holidays: Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays decided by the consulate
Employment period: Two years (including a six-month trial period), subject to further renewal upon agreement by both parties
Primary Duties:
1. Develop and maintain relationships with cultural and educational organisations as well as sister cities
2. Assist with youth and student exchange projects such as MEXT Scholarship Program
3. Prepare speeches/talking points for Consul-General and other consular staff at cultural events
4. Maintain a periodical mailing list database and mail-out periodicals
5. Assist with culture and education related enquiries
6. Work with universities, educational and cultural institutions as well as tourism organisations to enhance the Japan-Australia bilateral relationship
7. Design, maintain and upgrade content for the Consulate website and social media accounts
8. Other duties as required, including those of other sections
Key Selection Criteria:
1. Native level of English and excellent level of Japanese (JLPT N1 equivalent)
2. Thorough understanding about Japan and Japanese culture
3. Ability to perform effectively and cooperatively within a team environment
4. Demonstrated communication and administrative skills
5. Trustworthiness, discretion and a firm understanding of the privacy required within a diplomatic mission
Desired Attributes:
1. Experience living in Japan and working with Japanese people
2. Experience with running social media accounts (Facebook/Twitter)
